Technical Information

This site primarily seeks to explore different ideas of Sora based his own internal experiences influenced by his interaction to the external world around him. However, I also like to include forms even more external than that, specifically referencing the design team's own creative output. In addition, I wanted to break Sora out of his seemingly flat characteristics by taking him apart and critically looking at him in a rather unconventional system; he is neither internally pure--as generalizations make him out to be—nor inherently flawed. One of the many problems that come with superficially analyzing the game and its subparts is that some of Sora's actions seem to overshadow all of his flaws and mistakes, which he has. However, being the main character undoubtedly emphasizes such with no help from the support of the Disney franchise and ESRB rating. Although he isn't as complex or enigmatic like some of the other characters in the game, he is still a good (in the fullest sense of the word), solid, and strong protagonist. Perhaps what seems to redeem all of these flaws and mistakes his is uncanny ability to overcome them, more or less successfully.

It is important to remember that Sora was created by the hands of humans, like you and I. Likewise, I do think that there is an indirect correlation between the Sora we all know and love in his universe and the world of our own. This is the essence of a character, despite all fictional aspects, and I do my best to treat it as such.

Awakening has been around since mid-2004, and currently stands as my first and oldest tribute to a video game character. The site was originally called Same Sky for years, until I decided to rename it the summer of 2009. I was about 14 or 15 years of age when I wrote much of the content, so for a long time this site sounded it was written by an obnoxious fangirl. Much to everyone's dismay, it probably was. I regarded it more as an infobase, back when off-hand information wasn't collected properly and readily available. As of now, it houses a combined collection of my own theories and analyses as well as seeming related info (though to a lesser extent in quantity).

First and foremost, I would like to thank my friends Ale and Heidi, who have spent countless hours sitting on the couch of my apartment breaking down elements of the story into the wee hours of the night (we like to talk about geeky things, which is awesome… yeah). Both of them did an excellent job translating some of the Japanese-only released material for the series, such as the Director's Report XIII and the Final Mix+ Ultimanias. They also did the pleasure of commenting on scenes as they walked me through parts of Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix. If it weren't for some of their insight, much of the site's content would be incomplete.
