Throughout the game, Squall is faced with the dilemma of having to deal what is wrong from right, and separating white from black As he travels the world, he becomes aware of the fine line in between everything, and that sometimes there is no wrong or right, and other times there's a grey. And as he fights himself to figure this out, each dual counterpart exists to remind him of such.
The confrontation of duality had left its mark right from the beginning; the opening sequences of the game show a field of flowers on a bright day to a stormy battlefield, the transition from white angel feathers to black ones, the old and new sorceress, and the sources of Squall's and Seifer's scar as their gunblades travel across their faces in opposite directions. Though this game can sometimes carry some very obvious symbolism, it is important to remember that all of this happens within the same world and experience. Though Seifer and Squall have opposing personalities, they do not hate one another, but they recognize each other's differences. These recognitions allow both of them to live in the same world-- to coexist, or so to speak.
