Sasuke (サスケ) is suppsosedly named after the legendary ninja Sarutobi Sasuke (猿飛佐助). He was a famous ninja in many Japanese childrens' stories from 1911-1925.

His surname, Uchiha (うちは), was another way of pronouncing uchiwa. An uchiwa is a paper fan, which explains why the Uchiha clan's emblem is a fan.
